Description:

The duties of transportation officers are numerous. They consist of transporting inmates to other institutions, to hospitals, court, bedside visits and on funeral trips. Transporting inmates is arguably one of the most dangerous aspects of the corrections field. Any inmate transport must be conducted with the highest amount of planning, officer vigilance, and public safety. Within a split second, a routine transport can turn into sheer terror for the escort officer as well as the public. As you are transporting you will come in contact with the public, other law enforcement agencies, families of inmates, and medical staff. Therefore you must always conduct yourself in a professional manner and establish good IPC skills. This course is designed to enhance the transportation officers’ awareness, as well as enhance any department’s inmate transport procedures. The following topics will be covered in-depth during this course:

Describe the proper mindset that officers must be aware of before, during, and after inmate transports.

Describe the different use of force options that should be considered during inmate transports.
