Description:
Participants will learn to recognize the offense committed the elements to be proven, the defenses likely to be raised, and the types and purposes of evidence needed. Alcohol- and drug-facilitated sexual assaults will be discussed. The issues of "consent vs. force", "penetration vs. sexual contact", and "identity vs. mistaken identity" will be discussed at length. Participants will learn about "Offender Dynamics" and how to conduct suspect interviews. Participants will also learn how to conduct victim interviews, about the symptoms and stages often experienced by sexual assault victims, and the problems surrounding "Unfounded Allegations".
Objectives:
Identify the types and purpose of specific evidence
Learn interviewing techniques unique to sexual assault cases
Determine legitimacy and how to deal with unfounded cases
Know what elements must be proven
Learn how to effectively deal with alcohol or drug related sexual assaults
Learn how to deal with date rape and issues that must be taken into account if the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol
