Description:

Participants will gain knowledge of the current Domestic Violence law as well as the requirements for both Temporary and Civil Protection Orders. Characteristics of the abuser and the victim will be reviewed in detail. Participants will learn the "on-scene procedure" for establishing control of a Domestic Violence incident, will be able to identify the "primary aggressor", and will learn how to establish probable cause. Officer safety will be discussed in addition to which community agencies must become involved as a result of a Domestic Violence incident. The importance of detailed documentation will be discussed as will the importance of thorough evidence collection techniques.

Objectives:

Be able to quickly determine if an offense has actually been committed

Learn the proper procedures for controlling a domestic situation

Be familiar with various referral offices

Know the importance of and how to properly document evidence relevant to a Domestic Violence incident
