Description:

The seminar begins with the "9-1-1 Child Abuse Call: What Do You Do?" starting the participants at the three most common places from which an abuse call is originated, specifically, the hospital, the school, and the child's home.  The hospital-school-home theme runs throughout the length of the seminar. Conducting interviews with paramedics & hospital personnel, teachers & administrators, as well as friends, relatives and neighbors are discussed at length.  Participants are provided with an extensive list of questions they can use when interviewing suspects and witnesses. Consideration of crime scene details plays a significant part in these cases if they are to be successfully prosecuted.  Participants will learn what details to look for, and document, at the crime scene with special focus on areas frequently overlooked by first responders. The "How To" of interviewing child abuse victims will be discussed with particular attention to the use of the Anatomically Correct Drawings.  Participants will be given an entire packet of the drawings to duplicate for use in their own investigations. The final portion of the seminar is devoted to learning the Mandated Reporting Laws.  Investigators must be knowledgeable of the "in's and out's" of these laws if they are to obtain every available piece of information to successfully prosecute these cases.
