Description:
This training was designed to improve upon the officer/K-9 team’s current level of training as it pertains to narcotics search tactics and techniques on vehicles, buildings and rooms. During this course emphasis will be placed on the team’s strengths by demonstrating tactics and techniques and to improve weak areas using realistic and practical exercises in a realistic environment. The canine team will complete drills and exercises to effectively improve the indication on contraband alerts. Current case law and the need for proper documentation regarding K-9 searches will also be discussed and reviewed.
Objectives:
Building indication
Reading the K-9
Air flow to the K-9’s advantage
Search patterns
Various play practical exercises
Majority of this training will take place on the training ground through practical exercise and critique to effectively improve the skills and confidence of the K-9 team.
