Description:

The course assists participants with building the skills needed to be a full- or part-time public information officer; such as oral and written communications, understanding and working with the media, and basic tools and techniques PIO’s need. It covers the latest technology available at the time the course was written, so the PIO’s can use those tools comfortably and to their advantage.

Objectives:

By completing this 20 hours block of instruction, the student will learn to:

Clear communicating life safety information to the public

Getting more comfortable with the media

Develop working relationships with the media, co-workers, and superiors concerning public information activities
 
Develop and conduct awareness campaigns
